Microbiology is the core of biology, most life on earth is microbial, and it is about a century old. A lot of characters and things are related to the microbes that dwell on our skin. Way more microbes in the world than human. Fun stuff: a lot of bacteria are contained in sponges. Heating the sponges got rid of certain bacteria, but certain bacteria enjoy the heated treatment and multiply upon heating. A lot of microbes will also die in the absence of moisture. So rinse out, wring out and chunk when stinks (unless raw meat then boil hot water) Viruses are not microorganisms but are microbes because they are not living. Microbes are viruses and all other microorganisms ( ie eukaryotes, prokaryotes and archea) Robert hooke found microbes (fungus-eukaryote microorganism) on his belt. Antonie van leeuwenhoek: designed lens that allowed him to see in greater magnification, first dude to observe bacteria.
