Document Summary

The cell is the fundamental unit of life. Basic features of all cells: plasma membrane, cytosol, chromosomes, ribosomes. No nucleus, the dna is found in an unbound region called the nucleoid. Bacterial cell wall - bacterial cell walls are strong cell coatings that are capable of withstanding in a variety of environment conditions. Peptidoglycan is an important structural component of bacterial cell walls. Peptidoglycan is composed of two types of sugars n-acetyl glucosamine (nag) and n-acetyl muramic acid (nam), which are held together by peptides chains. Pili are appendages involved in the transfer of genetic information. The pilus extends from a donor cell to a recipient cell and allows for the transfer of a plasmid that is duplicated in the process. Dna in a nucleus that is bounded by a membranous nuclear envelope. Cytoplasm is present in the region between the plasma membrane and nucleus.
