BIOL359 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Molar Mass, Primary Standard, Titration
Document Summary
The main objective of this experiment was to find the identity of the unknown solution #16 using titration. Titration is a technique for determining the concentration of a solution with an unknown molarity. In experiment 2, the molar mass of the unknown solution had to be determined to find out the identity of the unknown from a set of possible unknowns. The unknown solution was found to be sulphamic acid with a molar mass of 91. 55g/mol when calculated which is close to the theoretical mass of 97. 09g/mol. To find the identity, the acid is made by dissolving a specified amount of solute into water and then titrating it against naoh till the endpoint is reached. Some qualitative observations were that once the endpoint of the titration is reached, the solution in the erlenmeyer turned a faint light pink. One source of error in this experiment was during the step for analytical weighing by difference.
