Discourse doesn"t just describe the world it creates what we perceives is real to us. We have to see symbolic power not as power but as common sense. All the forms of hidden persuasion, the most implacable are the order of things. Discourse is not the utterances or text that we would normally think is discourse. Who gets to speak, who gets that power, why do they get it, etc. Every time there"s a new problem solved, another one comes along. Rely on expert advice have been authorized to do so. Who"s version of the world, the way it is, gets to be the one that"s accepted. Discourse of medical science vs the discourse of alternative health care.
