Document Summary
Employee orientation (onboarding) provides new employees with basic background information about the employer and specific information that they need to perform their jobs satisfactorily. The law society views orientation as an investment in the retention of talent. Orientation is one component of the employer"s new-employee socialization process. Socialization is the ongoing process of instilling in all employees the prevailing attitudes, standards, values and patterns of behavior that are expected by the organization. Orientation helps reduce the new employee"s first day jitters and reality shock- the discrepancy between what the new employee expected from his or her new job and its realities. Online boarding systems that can be provided to new employees as soon as they accept the job offer are increasingly being used to engage employees more quickly and accelerate employees performance. Employee is given a handbook, a tour of the company, an explanation of job procedures, a summary of training, an explanation of performance.
