Disability that are poorly understood are subject to more scruiny in the workplace. Othering of disabled people happens via implicit/explicit conduct of dominant able-bodied group. Diicult in accommodaing arises from current state of medical knowledge diagnosis, symptoms, treatment. Goal of accommodaion is to ensure that an employee who is able to work can do so. Models of how disability is conceived: individually based concepions of disability, socially based concepions of disability. Prevalent models for understanding: medical model and economic model. Economic model: individually-based but focuses on costs of disability, limitaion of employee"s repertoire of producive capaciies, abiliies, and skills . Both medical and economical place burden of disability on individual, focus on curing/rehabilitaing which is problemaic for non-mainstream disabiliies.
