Theoretical perspectives: biomedical model, economic model, sociopolitical model. Disabilities in the workplace and the aoda: world wars, rehabilitation planning and the labour market, medicare. Economic model: need to address barriers to integrating people into the economic market. Social goals focus on accommodation and the need to provide a basic level of medical care and health services. Focuses on how the individual who is disabled misses out because of their condition: acknowledges that everyone with a disability is still a consumer and is able to contribute to the economy. Effects of disability on the individual but also on economic contributions to society. Sociopolitical model: most representative of current trends, notion of social justice, reflective of self-help groups, about perspective; every single person is different, and we all have abilities/disabilities; how you use those differences to allow. Combination of sociological and psychological theories with an advocacy and civil/human rights perspective.
