Looking at the effects of the problem: focus on prevention, cure, and management, criticisms: Treated as a medical issue, that needs management. A person"s body and mind, tend to get abstracted from social context. Focus on individual bodies, does not recognize things like social sigma. The medical model has been used to perpetuate stigma and to treat people with disabilities as objects of scientific scrutiny, rather than as humans with dignity. Medicine used in negative ways to place bodies under scrutiny because they are disabled or considered having a disability. Example: sterilization of unfit people (indigenous, disabled), attempts to regulates people.
