Task interdependence is how much coordination the team members require to do the task and accomplish the goals: a high degree of outcome interdependence exists when team members share the rewards that the team earns. Vary in their capacity to convey information: a rich channel is one that can handle multiple cues simultaneously and facilitate rapid feedback. The five-stage model assumes the group becomes more effective as it progresses through the first four stages. This is not always true, group behaviour is more complex (the process if not always linear, several stages may occur simultaneously, groups may regress). The punctuated-equilibrium model recognizes that temporary groups with deadlines don"t follow the five-stage model. They go through transitions between inertia and activity, experiencing an increase in performance at the halfway point.
