Problems: categorization is not a de nition, categorization may be based on super cial properties, organizations in different categories may operate based on similar principles, based on goal (the most common way) Social system with a goal or a purpose. Problems: goals may be unclear, of cial goals amy not be the actual goals, goal optimization in one unit may sub-optimize organization performance. Time to market for a new product vs. maximizing charges by the software developers. Anything that reduces the number of possible things that can happen to. Other examples of constraints: goals, rules, procedures, job/task. Constraints may be analyzed at any level of organizations, departments, relatively few that actually happens. E. g. arrival time requirements: patterns of behaviour, any given level of analysis groups or individual.
