Seen as a new approach to the relationship between music and lm. (would this approach work in other more conventional lms?) Combination of tonal music from the late 19th century (johann strauss ii) and atonal music from the 20th century (gyorgy ligeti) Considered (debated) the greatest marriage of lm and music . Mgm was being controlling of cooper to prevent lawsuits because of his erratic behaviour. He wanted to use classical music, however this is really expensive because you have to pay to use a recording. Synchronization rights can be a pain and be insanely expensive. Anyway they hire alexander north writes classical music like crazy for days for the lm. When the lm comes out none of his music is in it, and the pre recorded classical music is in it, just like cooper wanted. He does not put music anywhere where there is dialogue, it doesn"t compete with sound effects or voices.
