If we can prevent something bad from happening, without having to ourselves sacrifice anything of comparable moral importance, we are morally obligated to do so. We should be giving away lots of money to those in need. Proposals he is making is going to cause a radical shift in our beliefs/norms and everyday life (very different from what we are normally doing) His principle is true no matter what. Saving a life, sacrifice things that are morally significant, but not comparable to a life (not hurting anyone in order to save life) Moderate version without sacrificing anything morally significance (education) Doesn"t require to give up art, education, as long as you"re not sacrificing anything morally significant: clothing, tv, vacations, things you don"t necessarily need, materialistic items, less sacrifice. Effective altruism quantify amount of good you"re doing in the world i have this money, what should i do with it to bring around the most good.
