Morality is puzzling because its both contrary to our interests and in our interests. Morality is a system of principles where everyone does better if everyone follows them. Difference has to do with their relationship to morality. In contractualism - rawls imagines a process which is like a social contract, to determine what is just you come together in the original position and create principles. Not trying to gure out what the contract will tell you if there were no real justice as fairness. Not the project of trying to distance from morality to. Gure out what social contracts can give you. Kantian say: is not the humean theory of motivation. Why cant i just say to myself i want to live in peace, and you want to live in peace, so let"s make an arrangement: i won"t kill you, you won"t kill me . I"ll help you build your house if you help me build mine? .
