Format: similar to mid-term, material from now on forward, but link with towers in the. Public (social) housing project built in 1950s: tower in the park model (le corbusier) modern architecture. Idea was to put public housing in towers in the park, quad in the middle. Simple square forms, concrete built at high densities to give enough space for parks, turned into parking lots. Interior courtyards were isolated from rest of the city: resulted in many social issues, crime, poverty. Sometimes this design was seen as unsafe, it was not oriented towards the street, did not fit into the jane jacobs eyes on the street concept. Jacobs concept was about integration to help prevent crime. Pruitt-igoe was demolished: question emerged what link there was for social problems and architecture, by design it segregated low-income people to a particular area, ghetto. Created environment that was void of humanity, void of caring.
