Law of diminishing return: overtime the amount of effort you put into a project will yield certain rewards. Over time these returns change: once you meet the point of diminishing returns. 9/11 attacks: 4 planes hijacked, 2 crashed into the world trade centres and 1 into the pentagon and one in. In the 80"s was america"s friend and then after 9/11, became the top enemy. Different armed factions: 1996-2001 taliban years. Took an extremely archaic interpretation of the islamic faith. Was able to impose order that had not existed in afghanistan since the late 1970"s. American incursion into afghanistan: oct 7, 2001 american planes start bombing in afghanistan. Us and nato allies stood together to go in afghanistan, fight the bad guys, and clear out the terrorists together. 18 years later, some countries still there trying to clear out the bad guys while others have retreated: democracy unfolded, reconstruction. Similar to the marshall plan: counterinsurgency.
