William james considered the evolved functions of our thoughts and feelings. thinking, smelling, etc developed cuz it was adaptive-contributed to our ancestors survival. how they enable us to adapt, survive, and flourish. The first lecture on psych i ever heard was the first i ever gave -james. Mary whiton calkins woman who was denied her ph. d, but offered her a degree from radcliffe college-school for women. Her thesis was the first foreign study wundt published in his journal.
