Document Summary

Perception low level vision (pre-attentive analyses) visual routines (analyses requiring spatial attention) visual cognition (object recognition) Low level vision is bottom up, taking information right off the image. Visual cognition is where top up takes place. Each has a role, but have roles in different stages. Processors in the visual field looking for something in the image at the same time (ex. red things, or vertical lines) Really good processing with one part of the image, but that means that the other parts of the image receive little attention. Can have an attentional focus not necessarily where our eyes are looking. The blind date study men seemingly attending to the road, but distracted by the attractive research assistant. If you want to name something you have to go through all 3 stages stage 1 low level vision (pre-attentive) Start off the retina, and the first thing you need to find is discontinuities in the image.
