1 in 5 youths in the united states report being the victim of peer bullying, which may include verbal and/or physical assault, ridicule, or exclusion. 17% are bullied and 19% bully (6% do both) Boys > girls more likely to bully and be bullied. Boys are physically bullied; girls are verbally bullied. Bullies more likely to smoke, drink and be poor students. Socially withdrawn, physically weak, do not provoke aggression (petite kids, physical small) May be abused at home (illness, physically restless, disorder, they also have higher abuse at home, no positive role model) 10-25% of children under the age of 18 have been physically, sexually, or emotionally abused by a parent figure. Children are targets of 25% of assaults. 60% of all sexual assaults than adults are. Physical abuse (cut, freezing, slapping, shaking, biting) Neglect (failing to meet the basic needs, education, clothing, safety) Emotional abuse (hardest type of abuse, attack children mental well-being, give excessive aggressive, ignoring, isolating)
