Your social identity social identities create sense of shared membership. We see ourselves within network of concepts that we embody which creates unity cross situational consistency and variability: Ie. an african canada since birth and til death. Variable: how we attribute meaning that identity within context. Ie. in class where only africian canada, their social identity would be more obvious. Role within situation, predicts how they respond to own personal self and features of others. As we get older and learn about social categories and its implications, we develop further how we define ourselves in the context of others. When someone would activate their personal identity; lebron james emphasizing own personal goals and desires ie. family and winning. When part of group that faces a loses, one will emphasis personal indentity, but when group wins, they emphasis social identity. Optimial disctinctiveness theory: explains why waterloo winning against laurier feels good.
