REC100 Lecture 10: Online Module 5 Discussion
Document Summary
Young challenges the commonly held notions of disability by disapproving that people with disabilities should be sympathized with and thus, rewarded and admired. She rejects this by stating how the award is simply given for being disabled and not for who the person really is. She also describes her life to be very normal and relates to everyone, and shows that she is like everyone else. She describes her normal life by stating how she went to school, got good marks, and a very low key afterschool job . In society, individuals with disability are not viewed to lead a normal life, they are considered to have many struggles which causes society to pity them. Young proves this to be wrong by being herself and stating how she is not extraordinary or special as she states, i wasn"t doing anything that could be considered an achievement if you take disability out of the equation .
