A physical, developmental, or mental aspect that may challenge an individual in life. Disabilities can be cognitive, sensory, physical, mental health related, or illness related to the medical model, and located in the individual body. The death community does not consider deafness as a disability but rather an impairment on communication. Helps alleviate issues with nerve damage so that hearing may be fully, or partially, restored. However, it has been proved that it is not entirely effective. Does not encourage people to learn to live with deafness. In the medical model of disability, disability is an individual impairment or illness which prevents full independent participation in activities of daily living, or which prevents employment, access to able- bodied environments and more. Disabilities can be cognitive, sensory, physical, mental health related, or illness related, but in the medical model, are located in the individual body. The fix required to make someone fully participatory in their communities/lives is individual, and medical.
