But not everybody studies the texts of their religious tradition. It is important to also look at the mass produced symbols and tv shows, etc. in order to better understand the average practitioner. Ideas and texts are important, but the material dimension also has to be included. Can shift over time and depends on who is in possession of it. Sometimes evidence from material culture challenges the official beliefs of a religion. This evidence reflects, affects, and determines religious beliefs and behaviour.
