Community based policing is not clearly defined in the literature and in fact as a sociologist, dr. desroches find the concept of community based policing rather vague. Essentially the idea behind community based policing goes all the way back to sir robert peel blueprint for policing. So community based policing is based on democratic kinds of ideals and it has very lofty intentions to it. It"s a bit of a contrast and reaction to the more professional law enforcement model. This model became very popular in the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s and the police started to become somewhat detached from the community. So the professional model as mentioned before, one of the criticisms is that the profession see itself as the experts and they decide what"s best for client or patient or the community or whatever.
