Basic Statistics  Statistic = parameter that sorts data despite any random uncertainties  Observation = measure value  Parent population = all possible observations  Sample = set of observations  Sample distribution = function showing frequency of different observations within a sample  Central Tendency = reduce randomness from a sample, estimate true value in a sample  Measures of spread = estimate of uncertainty within sample  Relative Standing = where a specific measurement stands within the entire sample Central Tendency  Mean/Median/Mode are measures of central tendency  Mean = sum of values / number of values  Median = middle value when data is sorted (less susceptible to outliers)  Mode = mo
