Document Summary

White light around edge cell (like a halo) Add brightfield behind it in order to see the whole cell (overlapped microscopy) Note: biological membrane, phospholipid bilayer and lipid layer are not the same. Biological membrane is composed of a lipid bilayer but also has proteins/sugars. Phospholipid bilayer is a specific type of bilayer (you can make a bilayer with other things) Note: not all membranes in the eukaryotic cell are the same. Composition of proteins and lipids will change. Er is a little skinnier than the plasma membrane. They are all different (play different role depending on the organelle/structure they are composing) What role(s) does the plasma membrane play: boundary & permeability barrier e. g. plasma membrane, organization & localization of function e. g. different organelle membranes, transport processes e. g. proteins for transport through the membrane, signal detection. Permeability (allow things in and out) different for different types of molecules. Sugars are only present on outer leaflet of plasma membrane.
