Want to be perceived as a good boy/girl by others (parents, peers, teachers, god) Want to be perceived as a good citizen. Follow the law (law becomes your moral code) Recognize that laws are relative (change over time, constructed by those in power) You realize that different political groups will support different laws. Moral reasoning is based on self-chosen principles, not the law. Your principle is equality, regardless what the law says (self chosen principles and reasoning) Recognize there is often conflict amongst your self-chosen principles. Recognize that you must prioritize some principles over others.
