Functions (non-coenzyme: nervous system, exact role is unclear, nerve impulse transmission through regulation of na channels or permeability, phosphorylation of synaptic pro with ttp. Cross basolateral membrane, release to blood, distribute to tissues via blood system. Active transport: with transporters, ph sensitive, saturation at >5mg. 90% in rbc, enter by active transport then rephosphorylated to tdp. Some free thiamin free/bound to albumin, tmp found in plasma. Uptake to cells: liver + skeletal muscle, absorbed as free form->phosphorylated. Occurs if tdp + ttp> body"s needs + storage. Beriberi ( weakness ): damage cardio, neuro, weight loss, anorexia. Dry beriberi (neuromuscular: chronic low intake especially if coupled with high carb intake, severe muscle weakness + wasting, peripheral neuropathy: sensory/motor conduction issues, usu hands/feet.
