Document Summary

Critical geopolitics: essentially when intellectuals construct ideas about places, these ideas than influence and enforce their political behaviors/policy choices (these ideas also affects how we, the people, process our own notions of places and politics) Geopolitical tradition: they revisit the historical and geographical context on the ideas of geography, politics and strategy. Geopolitics and popular culture: how the circulation and consumption of certain images/narratives represent world culture. Structural geopolitics: based on statecraft and globalization, information networks and economic transformation. Classical geopolitics: more related to the idea of political realism (especially in international relations) Seen by critical geography as a kind of discourse/ideology that has legitimized some of the world"s most bloodiest military campaigns (throughout the 20th and early 21st century) However, important to recognize that classical geopolitics had a hand in forming international relations theory + foreign policy making. Clash of civilization --> there are also clashes of civilization when engaging in geopolitics.
