Document Summary

Symptoms of immune response are caused by unwanted cytokines in the body. Fever caused by cytokines the act on hypothalamus (determines body temp. Blood born infection is dangerous. causes septic shock: blood vessels throughout body dilate low blood pressure & organ failure. Autoimmune diseases (self-study topic) = where autoimmune system turns on itself and attacks healthy tissues. Allergy = antibody generates hypersensitivity from ige (fc receptors on mast cells is specific for ige: priming of mast cell: binding of ige to fcr secondary response. Allergies: ige produced, attaches to mast cells on fc receptors, cross-linking of ige to allergen, triggers histamine release by mast cell, changes cell behaviour. When histamine is released into the tissues, it changes cell behaviour (allergic reaction). For mild allergy, you just need to remove yourself from the environment. Antihistamines (localized: drug that changes how your immune response behave stops symptoms of allergy by blocking receptors.
