Heuristics: mental shortcuts, simplifying reality, e. g. choosing quinoa has fewer calories since it is healthy- a shortcut way of thinking not have to know fully of information"s, representativeness heuristics: Apply prototype to situation- then make false assumption when choosing weather beer or quinoa has fewer calories. What you hear in society to associate with situation. Guessing probability from how quickly it comes to mind- more likely to happen. Shark come to mind of being dangerous, than dogs. Research in psychology: variables: measurable characteristics. Things that can measure/ control in setting: hypothesis: tentative about relationship between two variables. Be able to think about it with if/then. Doesn"t have to be this type of statement. Direct statement between two: theory: system of ideas. Result of multiple hypothesis tested, evidence= build whole picture of what actually happens. Not like when you say you have a theory about a situation. Usually just an idea- not same as scientist theory.
