PSYC 305 Lecture 2: Ch2 - Personality Assessment
Document Summary
2 - personality assessment, measurement, and research design. How we can get information about other people"s personalities. Self report: what the person says about their values & attitudes (s-data) Observer report: what others say about them (o-data) Test data: place participants in controlled situation (t-data) Life history data: what the person has been through in the past (l-data) ^ all of these reveal something about the personalities of a person. Then there were 4 temperaments (hippocrates), the personality types were based on medical concept of humorism (bodily fluids affect personality traits & behaviors) There is also personality assessment based on face/body shape. Personality assessment based on phrenology (shape of the skull) Uses descriptive research (described personality ; what is a person"s level of extraversion?) and explanatory research (discover relationships between personality factors, or between personality and other phenomena ; is extraversion related to empathy?) S-data may be inaccurate because of individuals need to present themselves positively.
