PSYC 315 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Frontal Lobe, Neurogenesis, Visual Cortex
Document Summary
Myelination continues to occur prenatally childhood adolescence. Occurs in different rates and in different parts of the brain. Some areas such as visual cortex finished by early childhood. So many opportunities for connections to be made and broken. Child"s plasticity is what gives rise to learn things quickly at certain age. Plasticity able to re-wire brain to learn things easily/effectively (language development) Once synaptic pruning occurs, hard for them to learn things as fast as before. This process frees" up space for us to process other things. Overload of synapses happens when we are younger (overabundance of synapses synesthesia you perceive sensation, but you actually perceive more than one sensation hear + smell)
