Women"s structurally subordinate position in the home. A nuclear unit: working father, domestic mother, children at play: both working and middle class families do these, working class kids would be working; middle class kids played. Women focussing more exclusively on child rearing: now had time on their hands, started taking part in politics and went to school, important fact: they had domestic help. Nany to clean, and do other chores. Small growth in extended families: middle class people start having few children.
