Social forces, in order for societies to thrive, they need to meet conditions to hold together: emile durkheim(1858-1917, focus: All societies have the same needs to survive, regardless of history: mechanical solidarity. Small scale, relatively simple societies characterized by homogeneity; likened such societies to a stone. Complex societies characterized by differentiation, heterogeneity, likened to an organism which many organs which perform different functions.
