Gatekeeper= designated to grant or deny entry into a research setting i. e. principal letting you come into elementary school; secretary/assistant. You can establish contact with a key informant. A member who introduces you to the field. While informants may know a lot about a subject, you need to distinguish fact from their point of view. Can you show me around the university and show me which parts of it are central to your life. What each person shows you will give you insight into their lives/personalities. Person"s biography and how it fits into the group. Fieldwork should end when theory building reaches closure. Generally, members of the community are informed beforehand.
