Document Summary

There has been an era of urbanization in our modern world today. Great britain (at about 1900) --> becomes the first truly urbanized. Society (where the majority of the population is living in cities, and the urban population exceeded the rural population) Before that, there were a lot of cities but the vast majority of them lived rural lives. Urbanization: the increasing share of a society"s population living in cities, which in turn profits urbanization. Throughout the world, urbanization has taken a divided world. Global north: the wealthy developed world, industrialized, largely urbanized, but now their rate of change in urban share is very slow - as they have already reached their peak (north america, japan) Urban transition model: looks at the relationship between urbanization and how is affected by the economy. Could be an optimistic case --> where development would generate wealth and draw people from rural areas to the urban areas (hence urbanization)
