Urban growth: an increase in the absolute size of a city, as measured by the number of people. Urbanizaion: the transformaion of populaion from rural to urban status; marked by an increased proporion of the populaion living in ciies. Percent of the populaion living in urban areas: 1800 (or prior to industrial revoluion) About 3% (world) vs 10% in the mdw (more developed world) About 14% (world) vs. about 50% in much of the mdw. They have a history of setlement in ciies therefore live mostly in ciies. Africa and asia are less than 40% urbanized. By 2025: 60% of the world populaion esimated to be urbanized. In terms of the rate of urban growth. Explanaions: exising levels of urbanizaions, levels of economic development, diferenial demographic trends.
