State of disorganization in which someone faces frustration of important life goals or profound disruption of their life cycles and methods of coping with stressors. it usually involves feelings of fear, shock, and distress. Crisis point is reached when their coping resources fail. When a high conflict or crisis event has a stressful impact person experiences unusually strong emotional reactions that have the potential to interfere with her/his ability to function. The reaction a person or group has to a critical incident (eg. An issue that is beyond the capability of the individual to cope with at the time. Decide on type of help needed in the moment; what resources are available (support group, friend, personal strengths, etc. ) to restore person to basic level of functioning. Act assist by helping to vent fear, guilt, or anger; expand helpee"s options to help themselves/mobilize coping mechanisms; referral to specialist, if appropriate.
