Determined life worth living when: people were thoughtful and reflective, chose activities based on good reasons, cared about their family, friends & community. Believed true happiness came from being virtuous and virtue came from knowledge . Standards of behaviour that tell us how human beings ought to act in the many situations in which they find themselves as friends, parents, children, citizens, business people, teachers, professionals and so on . Provides a framework through our values to help us determine decisions of right and wrong, good and bad, and doing the right thing. Two schools of ethics: applied ethics, professional ethics. Importance of ethics personally: inner reward virtue has its own rewards, self-respect, wise to treat others as you would want to be treated, respect and approval from family and peers, builds self esteem.
