Pre-interaction Phase

oUnderstand the situation/ anticipate needs
oEx: coming in to work early and reading new patients chart
Orientation Phase
oStranger role, basic introductions
oDefine purpose, nature, and length of relationship (Do this for client
visitation)
Ex: purpose- company, getting to spend time as a nursing student
to better create relationships
Nature-therapeutic professional relationship
Length- ends
oEstablish trust
oIdentify needs
oDefine problems
oDefine goals
Working Phase
oActive problem solving
oInterventions
oEncourage self-direction and self-management
oChoice talk/ option talk/ decision talk

oExplore meaning of the relationship
