New leaders often think of leadership power as something granted by an organization through the leader"s position. However, leaders also have power that doesn"t depend on job authority. Leaders use power and political processes to influence others and get things done. 4 types of influential leadership that rely strongly on a leader"s personal char"s and relationships are transformational, charismatic, coalitional and machiavellian-style leadership. Leadership characterized by the ability to bring about significant change in followers and the organization. Create an atmosphere of change, and they inspire followers not to just follow them personally but also to believe in the vision. Inspire followers to go beyond their own self-interest for the good of the whole. Paints a grand vision of a desired future and communicates it in a way that makes the pain of change worth the effort. Inspires followers to go beyond their own self-interests for the good of the group.
