Upper extremities: bones of the shoulder girdle, upper and lower parts of the arm, wrist, and hand. Lower extremities: bones of the hip, thigh, leg, ankle, and foot. Attaches to ribs by muscles and tendons not a joint. Most frequently broken bone: humerus (glenoid cavity) Narrow rim of fibrocartilage around the glenoid cavity. Muscles that attach the upper extremity to the torso are located anteriorly (chest) or posteriorly (back and neck); allow extensive movement in every plane of motion. Arm muscles shoulder is a synovial joint allowing extensive movement in every plane of motion. Articulations: proximal: head fits into glenoid cavity of scapula, distal: radius and ulna (elbow) Articulations: proximal: humerus & ulna, distal: carpal (wrist) bones & ulna. Articulations: proximal: humerus (to form elbow) Eight small bones that form the wrist.
