Document Summary

Normal physiology is how our body normally functions. Pathophysiology is when anything goes wrong in normal function in our bodies. Idiopathic illness that arises from an unknown cause. Risk factor increased probability that disease will occur, ex: risk factor for osteoporosis is age. Precipitating factor condition/event that can trigger a disorder. Subjective not measurable, how a person is feeling. Iatrogenic result of a medical treatment, ex: treated with a medication for kidneys, causes a problem. Signs objective measurements of disease, ex: takes bp, something is wrong, blood work, wbc too high. Acute comes on very suddenly, lasts a short period of time. Chronic comes on later, persists for many years, occurs slowly over time. Sequelae sequel, unwanted outcome, ex: a sequelae of stroke is paralysis. Decreased ability to recover from an injury. Need to distinct if it is normal or pathophysiologic.
