The totality of voluntary civic and social organizations and institutions. Shared characteristics, value, interests, goals that provokes a sense of belonging. Can be considered occupational (physicians, accountants) some kind of commonality. Can be based on skills, gender, age, ethnicity or some combination of these . Based on good neighbourliness and social trust. More labour extensive and have to give money, time and effort. Less about the business aspects of the accumulation of resources more about participation. Businesses try to match supply and demand while the government is more like redistribution. Standard health care and education should be the same anywhere in the country. Sorting in civil society is more about arrangements and networks and what people identify as a common interest.
