Tradiionally, applicaion development dollars are directed toward those projects & enhancements demanded by the largest group of users: this pracice of catering to the masses doesn"t necessarily lead to an outcome with the greatest posiive impact on producivity. Broadcast model: used in organizaions to communicate w/ their audiences messages lowed from sender to receiver. Conversaion model: newer model; where communicaion lows back & forth btw/ sender & receiver. Social network services (snss): virtual community; with social networking, individual users maintain an idenity thru their proile & can be selecive about which members of the larger community they choose to interact with. Crowdsourcing: problem solving & idea generaion that arranges collecive talents of a large group of ppl. My starbucks idea = designed to hear ideas & feedbacks from customers. Online/virtual communiies: communiies that are not bound by poliical or geographic boundaries. Take many forms blogs, youtube, apps & sharing sites like flickr, etc.
