A broad tendency to prefer certain states of affairs over others. Values have to do with what we consider good and bad. People tend to hold values structured around such factors as achievement, power, autonomy, conformity, tradition, and social welfare. it isnt easy to manage people from different culture because of value differences. There are basic differences in work-related values across cultures. A lack of understanding of cross-cultural differences can cause foreign assignments to terminate early and business negotiations to fail. As a manager the values of your employees fit the profile of the organization. Geert hofstede questioned over 116,000 ibm employees in 40 countries about their work-related values. He discovered four basic dimensions along which work-related values differed across cultures: Masculinity / femininity women avoided given higher position.
