Definitions: an erp is used for planning and controlling the resources (human, financial, material) of the organization. It insures the seamless integration of info within an organization. It"s used at the operational (tps) and decision-making (dss, eis) levels. Information must be transferred from one department to another. When a user enters or updates info in one module, it is updated immediately and automatically throughout the entire system. Reasons why erp solutions are growing: a logical solution to the problem of incompatible applications that had sprung up in most businesses. It addresses the need for global information sharing and reporting. It"s used to avoid the pain and expense of replacing/fixing legacy systems: legacy system older computer technology still in use (it"s still used because it"s still useful and expensive to replace) Core erp components traditional components included in most erp systems; primarily in most erp systems; primarily focused on internal operations.
