Document Summary

A meandering of network of lymphatic vessels. Lymph nodes, that cleanse the lymph as it passes thru vessels. Up to 3l of (cid:862)leaked(cid:863) fluid + plasma proteins returned to circulatory system. Begins w/ microscopic blind-ended lymth capillaries (lacteals) Everywhere except bones, teeth, bone marrow, and cns (where excess tissue fluid drains into the cerebrospinal fluid) Lymph capillaries v/ permeable endothelial cells forming walls of lymphatic capillaries are not tightly joined, instead are overlap adjacent cell edges loosely to form flap like minivalves. Filaments anchor the endothelial cells to surrounding structures. When in interstitial fluid v, it opens the minivalves instead of causing lymph capillaries to collapse. When in p inside the lymphatic capillaries is > than that inside vessels , the valves are pushed shut (cid:271)(cid:455) fluid so the(cid:455) don"t leak out. Larger clusters where lymphatic vessels converge (inguinal (groin), axillary (armpit), cervical (neck) regions: filter lymph (macrophages (wbc), remove + destroy microorganisms)
