ANP 1105 Lecture Notes - Lecture 10: Tissue Plasminogen Activator, Polycythemia Vera, Von Willebrand Factor
Document Summary
Things i need to learn before midterm 2. Blood transport functions: deliver oxygen from lungs and nutrients from digestive tract to cells, transport waste products from cells to elimination sites, transport hormones from endocrine system to target organs. Blood regulation functions: maintain body temperature, maintain ph in body tissues, maintain adequat fluid volume in circulatory system. Blood protection functions: prevent blood loss, prevent infections. Rbcs: bags of hemoglobin (protein for gas transport) that contain structural protein and some enzymes, spectrin (protein) maintains biconcave shape of erithrocytes while folding and such, effeciant oxygen carriers (does not consume any of it) Erythrocytes functions: most oxygen carried in blood is bound to hemoglobin, hemoglobin: red heme pigment bound to the protein globin. Globin is bound to 2 alpha and 2 beta polypeptide chains creating 4 heme groups. Dietary requirements for erythropoeisis: amino acids, lipids and carbohydrates.
