ANP 1106 Lecture Notes - Lecture 2: Stratum Lucidum, Stratum Corneum, Stratum Granulosum
Document Summary
What is thick skin versus thin skin? thick skin is present in places that require more toughness due to wear. Which layer is found only in thick skin? stratum lucidum. Stratum lucidum (clear layer) just 2-3 rows of clear, flat, dead keratinocytes stratum corneum stratum lucidum stratum granulosum stratum spinosum stratum basale. Stratum comea -> epidermis -> papillary dermis -> reticular dermis -> Papillary dermis is thin and superficial and has papillae or little projections into hypodermis epidermis. Cell types typical of ct: fibroblasts, macrophages, some mast cells, wbcs semi-fluid matrix heavily embedded with collagen, elastin & reticular fibres richly supplied with nerve fibers, blood & lymphatic vessels. Needs lots of support because it is easily damaged. Lots of matrix and fibres between layers especially in reticular dermis. Also hair follicles, oil & sweat glands. Reticular layer is deeper and thicker than the papillary layer. Interwoven mat of areolar ct fibers interspersed with blood vessels.
